3- Thread the needle that you were using for your plastic canvas with a little bit of yarn and make stitches all around to join the tube to the top of your ball handle so that the tube won’t come out of the handle. Don’t worry if it is a bit messy, all this will go inside the Head. Fasten off and secure.
4- Stuff Head.
5- Insert cat ball.
6- Push the Ball Handle into Head, towards the BACK, leaving room for the cat ball in FRONT.
7- Thread blunt needle with tail left in Head and sew opening closed. Now when you reach the portion where the Ball Handle is, use the loops we left on the second row of our Pumpkin section and stitch a little further down also for a little bit more firmness. Repeat at the Back. Fasten off, weave in tail.

Half rnd 2- Join White. Working in back loops only, make 2 sc in each of first 3 sc, sl st in next sc, Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with.

Putting Blockety Ducky Together:
Stuff the beak with fiberfill. Take the block that will correspond to Blockety Ducky’s face, turn it so that the stripes of the sc rows will run vertically, and measure it with measuring tape, center the beak, pin down. Thread blunt needle and sew all around. Fasten off, weave in tail. Pin eyes on top of beak and sew in place.
Fasten off and weave tail. Pin “pink” of cheeks in place beside the beak and sew in place. Fasten off. (Face done.) Set aside.
Take the first block that will correspond to one of the sides, turn it so that the sc rows will run vertically and sew the wing right about the middle of it (measure so that both wings will be at the same level), repeat with the block that will correspond to the other side of block. Fasten off, weave in tails. Take square that corresponds to back of Blockety Ducky, turn so that sc rows run vertically, and center tail on lover part of that square, pin and sew in place. Fasten off, weave in tail.
Sew two pieces together for each foot. Barely stuff it so that the foot will still be somewhat flat. Close the foot entirely. Fasten off, weave in tail. Repeat with the other foot.
Sew the face block to the side blocks (the ones with the wings. Fasten off, weave in tails. Sew the bak block that has the tail to these three blocks. Fasten off, weave in tail. Sew the bottom block to all the blocks you have already joined. Fasten off, weave in tail. Decide if your Blockety will rattle or if it will be squeezed to hear it squeak, and as you stuff with fiberfill and bury into Blockety either one or two cat balls or a squaker. Sew top block and fasten off.
Note 2- If you have chosen to stuff the toy and insert a squaker, the ducky will squeak when you squeeze the block, and it is a totally different effect than you get with the rattling ball inside.

You can find very affordable squeakers (believe it or not, at dog toy supplies like Sitstay.com ---Not associated in any way with us. Or in any place that sells grunters and squakers for stuffed dog toys.)

You're done!

Funmigurumi Monkeyroo 5: (Baby Rattle) Amapola

Best Blog Tips

Amapolas are "poppies" in Spanish. The most common are huge red ones. This baby rattle is red and I thought Amapola was a great name for a monkey. Don't you think? It is a fun name and this is a fun toy. It is also very easy to make. I thought to name it "LoudLee" because it "rattles" really well while it bobs its head back and forth, but thought better of it when I ran into Amapola again.

Amapola is a "sockie" monkeyroo, in other words, a sock-monkey-style rattle. Hope you like her!

How to finish toy: Insert second cat toy ball into Head. Stuff with Fiberfill. Insert handle into bottom of head. Weave red tail in an out of remaining stitches in head and pull to close around edge of handle.
Sew them all together really well so handle will not come off! Fasten off. Weave in tail.
If you would like the toy to be "stiffer" (not to have a funny wobby head as you rattle it for baby) you may insert a small craft stick that will go from the head to the top of the base cat ball (and you will not use the jingle bells.) The toy will have less sound though.
Sew them all together really well so handle will not come off! Fasten off. Weave in tail.
You're done!

Funmigurumi Mixed-Media Owlettes: Winkie and Hooter

Best Blog Tips

Mixed media is not only fun but it sometimes saves you time, if you are in a hurry to make a gift. If you have a special toddler or 6 to 12-month-old baby that you want to surprise with an easy to make, cute toy for the crib, playpen or just for naptime fun and comfort, this is an ideal one to make. It is a combo toy and it works out really fast. You will be using a paper pattern to cut out the body from fleece or from sweatshirt fabric and crochet to make out the rest.
Materials:

1/2 yard of fleece or sweatshirt fabric, any kind you like (I used a stretchy striped one, it behaved like knit fabric)

1 cat toy with a bell per owlette

Scissors

Sharp sewing needle

Blunt needle

Size H crochet hook and size F crochet hook

Embroidery floss (Black for Winkie, Pale Yellow for Hooter, Red to emphasize belly of both owlettes)

Scraps of Red Heart worsted weight yarn in the following colors:

Baby Yellow, Pumpkin, Pretty N Pink, Spring Green, and Cherry Red

Quilting sewing thread or upholstery thread (strong) matching the fabric of your choice, and red sewing thread

Fiberfill

(Optional) sewing machine

Paper

Pen or pencil

Compas or bowl of the size you want your owlette

Pins
With compass or bowl, make a circle as large as possible for a compass or as large as the bowl you have selected on the sheet of paper. With the pen or pencil, draw two triangles on both ends of the top of the circle (those are the horns, since these are baby horned owls).Refine the triangles to your satisfaction. Cut your paper pattern. Take the fabric (iron it if it is wrinkled), and pin the paper pattern to it,cut two (Front and Back). Set aside. Eyes- (Make 2 per owlette) With Black, ch 2. Make 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Rnd 2- Make 2 sc in each sc around. Fasten off Black. Join Baby Yellow. Make 1 sc in each of first 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat around. Fasten off. Beak (Make 1 per owlette)- With Pumpkin and F hook, ch 3. Row 1- 1 sc in 2nd ch from hk, ch 2, turn. Row 2- 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 2, turn. Row 3- Rep row 2.

Rep around. Rnd 4- Make 2 sc in each of first 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc. Rep around.Rnd 5- Make 1 sc in each of first 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around. Rnd 6- Make 1 sc in each of first 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around. Rnd 7- Make 1 sc in each sc around. Fasten off Pretty N Pink. Join Baby Yellow. Rnd 8- 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc. Rep around. Rnds 9 to 10- 1 sc in each sc around. Rnd 11- Make 1 sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around. Fasten off.For Winkie, proceed as follows: With Cherry Red, ch 2. Rnds 1 to 4- Rep first 4 rnds as for Hooter's belly. Fasten off. Join Spring Green.Rnds 5 to 7- Rep Rnds 5 to 7 as for Hooter's Belly. Fasten off. Join Pretty N Pink. Rnds 8 to 9- Rep Rnds 8 and 9 as for Hooter. Sew beak to belly with the same yarn with which you made beak. Fasten off.
Putting your owlettes together- With both right sides facing, pin your owlette's body so that the fabric will not twist on you as you sew it.With either sewing machine or by hand using quilting thread and needle and running stitch in small and close stitches, sew both front and back of body together, leaving an opening at the bottom for stuffing. Turn inside out. Sew eyes in place as in photos using embroidery thread. Stuff belly and sew it in place usingred sewing thread and very small stitches. Fasten off. Thread the sewing needle with Red embroidery thread and go all around the belly with a nice and even buttonhole stitch to adhere it more firmly to the body of the toy. Stuff your toy, slip the cat bell inside. Finish stuffing. Sew bottom closed.
Note- You can make these owlettes as simple soft toys out of terry and crochet too. But I thought it would be more fun for the baby tohave them rattle as well.
