Note- If you are thinking, one ear side is bigger than the other one, I answer, yes! When you sew them,
the ear will curl slightly and will have a more "natural" look.

Place ear rounds together with wrong sides facing inward and right sides facing outward and sew all around, except bottom of ear.
Leave that open to insert into toy, to give more strength to the ear.
Sew eyes in place using leftover tails. Thread needle with a bit of Black and embroider 2 dots for nostrils in top center of muzzle, between eyes. Fasten off.
Make a Black dot in center of each eye. Fasten off. Still with Black, embroider eyebrows on top of eyes. Fasten off.
Stuff body. Sew top of body using leftover tails. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Attach ears as seen in photos, pin down and sew in place.
Fasten off. Weave in tials.
Done!

Funmigurumi Monkeyroo 5: (Baby Rattle) Amapola

Best Blog Tips

Amapolas are "poppies" in Spanish. The most common are huge red ones. This baby rattle is red and I thought Amapola was a great name for a monkey. Don't you think? It is a fun name and this is a fun toy. It is also very easy to make. I thought to name it "LoudLee" because it "rattles" really well while it bobs its head back and forth, but thought better of it when I ran into Amapola again.

Amapola is a "sockie" monkeyroo, in other words, a sock-monkey-style rattle. Hope you like her!

How to finish toy: Insert second cat toy ball into Head. Stuff with Fiberfill. Insert handle into bottom of head. Weave red tail in an out of remaining stitches in head and pull to close around edge of handle.
Sew them all together really well so handle will not come off! Fasten off. Weave in tail.
If you would like the toy to be "stiffer" (not to have a funny wobby head as you rattle it for baby) you may insert a small craft stick that will go from the head to the top of the base cat ball (and you will not use the jingle bells.) The toy will have less sound though.
Sew them all together really well so handle will not come off! Fasten off. Weave in tail.
You're done!

Funmigurumi Mixed-Media Owlettes: Winkie and Hooter

Best Blog Tips

Mixed media is not only fun but it sometimes saves you time, if you are in a hurry to make a gift. If you have a special toddler or 6 to 12-month-old baby that you want to surprise with an easy to make, cute toy for the crib, playpen or just for naptime fun and comfort, this is an ideal one to make. It is a combo toy and it works out really fast. You will be using a paper pattern to cut out the body from fleece or from sweatshirt fabric and crochet to make out the rest.
Materials:

1/2 yard of fleece or sweatshirt fabric, any kind you like (I used a stretchy striped one, it behaved like knit fabric)

1 cat toy with a bell per owlette

Scissors

Sharp sewing needle

Blunt needle

Size H crochet hook and size F crochet hook

Embroidery floss (Black for Winkie, Pale Yellow for Hooter, Red to emphasize belly of both owlettes)

Scraps of Red Heart worsted weight yarn in the following colors:

Baby Yellow, Pumpkin, Pretty N Pink, Spring Green, and Cherry Red

Quilting sewing thread or upholstery thread (strong) matching the fabric of your choice, and red sewing thread

Fiberfill

(Optional) sewing machine

Paper

Pen or pencil

Compas or bowl of the size you want your owlette

Pins
With compass or bowl, make a circle as large as possible for a compass or as large as the bowl you have selected on the sheet of paper. With the pen or pencil, draw two triangles on both ends of the top of the circle (those are the horns, since these are baby horned owls).Refine the triangles to your satisfaction. Cut your paper pattern. Take the fabric (iron it if it is wrinkled), and pin the paper pattern to it,cut two (Front and Back). Set aside. Eyes- (Make 2 per owlette) With Black, ch 2. Make 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Rnd 2- Make 2 sc in each sc around. Fasten off Black. Join Baby Yellow. Make 1 sc in each of first 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat around. Fasten off. Beak (Make 1 per owlette)- With Pumpkin and F hook, ch 3. Row 1- 1 sc in 2nd ch from hk, ch 2, turn. Row 2- 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 2, turn. Row 3- Rep row 2.
Belly- For Hooter, proceed as follows: With Pretty N Pink, ch 2. Rnd 1- Make 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Rnd 2- Make 2 sc in each sc acround. Rnd 3- Make 1 sc in each of first 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc. Rep around. Rnd 4- Make 2 sc in each of first 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc. Rep around.Rnd 5- Make 1 sc in each of first 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around. Rnd 6- Make 1 sc in each of first 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around. Rnd 7- Make 1 sc in each sc around. Fasten off Pretty N Pink. Join Baby Yellow. Rnd 8- 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc. Rep around. Rnds 9 to 10- 1 sc in each sc around. Rnd 11- Make 1 sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around. Fasten off.For Winkie, proceed as follows: With Cherry Red, ch 2. Rnds 1 to 4- Rep first 4 rnds as for Hooter's belly. Fasten off. Join Spring Green.Rnds 5 to 7- Rep Rnds 5 to 7 as for Hooter's Belly. Fasten off. Join Pretty N Pink. Rnds 8 to 9- Rep Rnds 8 and 9 as for Hooter. Sew beak to belly with the same yarn with which you made beak. Fasten off.
Putting your owlettes together- With both right sides facing, pin your owlette's body so that the fabric will not twist on you as you sew it.With either sewing machine or by hand using quilting thread and needle and running stitch in small and close stitches, sew both front and back of body together, leaving an opening at the bottom for stuffing. Turn inside out. Sew eyes in place as in photos using embroidery thread. Stuff belly and sew it in place usingred sewing thread and very small stitches. Fasten off. Thread the sewing needle with Red embroidery thread and go all around the belly with a nice and even buttonhole stitch to adhere it more firmly to the body of the toy. Stuff your toy, slip the cat bell inside. Finish stuffing. Sew bottom closed.
Note- You can make these owlettes as simple soft toys out of terry and crochet too. But I thought it would be more fun for the baby tohave them rattle as well.

Now measure duckieroo’s little head so that you can place the bill centered. Pin the bill in place so that it will not move as you sew it.Sew the underside of the bill flat, but as you sew the upper part, raise it a bit to a curve upwards to immitate the real bill of a duckie.Fasten off. I have a blog totally dedicated to bears I design following the style of amigurumi toys up to a point, that point is where my creative juices start flowing and I run after them! Each one of my bears has a personality all its own, and a face all its own. But I also love to work for children's charities and this year, aside from other things, I'm making toys. I've decided to start this little corner to share these toys and also any other children's patterns I come up with.

My first installment will be these Funmigurumi Hippos.
I call them that way because they are super easy to make, and if you, as I did, choose vibrant and happy colors, the kids will go wild for them!
I named my first ones Buddy, Buster and Bailey, and they went to a charity for abused children.
This pattern belongs to me and I share it freely, with the understanding that you will not sell it nor post it under your name. You may use it for gifts or charity all you want. If you make some of these hippos for charity, let me know, it will really make my day special! Thanks.
Here's the pattern. Enjoy!

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn of 3 different but compatible colors
a little bit of black yarn
H crochet hook
E crochet hook
blunt needle
scissors
pins
measuring tape
fiberfill stuffing
Note: Before you start your hippo, choose the colors you are going to use. Write in a piece of paper, which coloryou will be using for the muzzle and which two colors you will be using for the body. Decide if you will be matching the ears to the muzzle or to one of the colors of the body, etc. Wtire it down in a pice of paper, and personalize your Hippo!
Follow that color scheme as you work the pattern.

Eyes (make 2)- You can use purchased safety eyes. I used handmade eyes which keep the lovable homespun quality of the toy. With Hook size h and a little bit of black yarn, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Fasten off leaving a long tail to sew with.
Ears (make 4 per toy)- With muzzle color and using size "H" hk, ch 3, make 3 dc in 3rd ch from hk. Change to size e hook and ch 1, sc all around th ear. Fasten off leaving long tail. Repeat this 4 times (leave a long tail in only 2 of them to sew.)
Bangs- With H hook and muzzle color, ch 18, 1 sc in 7th ch from hk, 1 sc in next sc, ch 6, 1 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, ch 6, 1 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, across. Last two loops, do not make 1 sc in between. Fasten off.
Finishing-Put both right side pieces of body facing each other, with the wrong sides facing you, using the blunt needle and the long tails you left, whipstitch the sides first. How to sew the bangs: Using measuring tape or ruler, measure the two ends of hte toy, looking for the center, mark. When you are about to sew the top of the toy, insert the bang strip into the "pocket" formed by the half-sewn toy, with the wrong side of the bang facing inward, touching the fabric of the crocheted toy and the loops of the beginning chain of the bang facing upward, align it between the marks that you made, to make sure it is centered in the "face" of the toy, align it also with the edge of the top of the toy and the loops you are going to sew it through, whipstitch, inserting the needle through both sides of the toy and the bang at the same time, pull firmly but not twisting the toy. Fasten off. Sew ears in place to both ends of the headas follows: First, whipstitch two ear pieces to each other, then sew them to the corner of the head as seen in picture. Fasten off. Stuff arms lightly and sew in place guiding yourself by the photos. Stuff the body of the hippo and whipsitch bottom of body. Fasten off. Stuff legs lightly and sew in place. Tail; Cut two 51"-long pieces of yarn of every color used to make the toy (6 strands in total). Fold in half. Tie a small piece of yarn of a contrasting color (do not make a tight knot since you will be taking that off) tie this to a door knob, a chair or where you find it comfortable, divide the strands so that you'll have 3 groups of 4 strands each. Braid. Tie a piece of yarn at bottom, leaving a tassel. Snip off excess. Sew tail to 5th row of sc at the back of the hippo, counting from the bottom of the body.
You're done!
