Funmigurumi Monkeyroo No. 6: Peanuts

Best Blog Tips

I love the old-fashioned patchwork style toys, so whenever the pattern idea I have in mind allows it, I love to make them in that style. Peanuts is somewhat of a combination of that and sock monkey. This toy is also a stash buster, you can use up colorful scraps and make a fun toy to make a child happy! Peanuts is a chubby and stubby monkeyroo, not as "tall" as the others we have made.

"He who has given you life knows your need of food to sustain it. He who created the body is not unmindful of your need of raiment. Will not He who has bestowed the greater gift bestow also what is needed to make it complete?
Jesus pointed His hearers to the birds as they warbled their carols of praise, unencumbered with thoughts of care, for "they sow not, neither do they reap"; and yet the great Father provides for their needs. And He asks, "Are not ye of much more value than they?"
"No sparrow falls without His care,
No soul bows low but Jesus knows;
For He is with us everywhere,
And marks each bitter tear that flows.
And He will never, never, never
Forsake the soul that trusts Him ever." . . .

Funmigurumi Monkeyroo 5: (Baby Rattle) Amapola

Best Blog Tips

Amapolas are "poppies" in Spanish. The most common are huge red ones. This baby rattle is red and I thought Amapola was a great name for a monkey. Don't you think? It is a fun name and this is a fun toy. It is also very easy to make. I thought to name it "LoudLee" because it "rattles" really well while it bobs its head back and forth, but thought better of it when I ran into Amapola again.

Amapola is a "sockie" monkeyroo, in other words, a sock-monkey-style rattle. Hope you like her!

Sew them all together really well so handle will not come off! Fasten off. Weave in tail.
If you would like the toy to be "stiffer" (not to have a funny wobby head as you rattle it for baby) you may insert a small craft stick that will go from the head to the top of the base cat ball (and you will not use the jingle bells.) The toy will have less sound though.
Sew them all together really well so handle will not come off! Fasten off. Weave in tail.
You're done!

Front of Ears (Make 2)- With Pumpkin, repeat first 4 rows as for Back of Eears. Using leftover tail and with Right Sides facing, sew 1 Back and 1 Front of ear together (yes, the Back is larger than the Front so that it will "fold" creating a "rim" for the ear), leave opening at the bottom of ear to join to body. Fasten off.
Muzzle- This is a needle sculpted muzzle to give Bananas a more "monkeyish" look. It is fun to make and very effective (don't be intimidated by the term "needle sculpted" it is quite easy to make! This is Craftybegonia!)
With pumpkin, ch 2. Rnd 1- Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Sl st to join rnd. Rnd 2- 2 sc in each sc around. Rnd 3- 1 sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around. Still holding the "pinched" wrinkle, taking the needle, secure it by sewing the stitches firmly in place on the inside of Banana's Face. Repeat with the upper "lip." Use photos to guide yourself. To make sure the "lips" will stay in place, make a couple of stitches on each edge of the Mouth. Fasten off.
Measure Face and center Muzzle in place, pin down, leaving an opening through which you will stuff it lightly. Sew in place. Fasten off.
Measure Front of Body, sew Ears in place. Fasten off. Stuff Arms and measuring for same height, pin and sew in place at both sides of Body. Fasten off.
"Tie" Bangs witht he tails left on the ends of the Flower, and secure to Face so that little hairdo will not come undone.

Funmigurumi Monkeyroo Baby Rattle—3: "Jiggles"

Best Blog Tips

I did not name my first rattle, but decided to name this one to make it a little more fun.
This is a very easy baby toy to make. I made it as colorful as possible (for a monkey), although by the time I finish making a whole bunch of them, I will probably get "jungle wild" with color (it always happens!) So, here's "Jiggles," hope you like him!

Materials:

Red Heart worsted weight yarn Cherry Red
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Ranch Red
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Black (scraps)
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Bright Yellow or White (scraps)
Crochet hook size H
Crochet hook size F
Blunt needle
Scissors
Measuring tape
Pins
Fiberfill
2 Cat balls with a bell inside

Body (Make 2)- With Cherry Red and H hook, Ch 2. Rnd 1- Make 6 sc in second ch from hook. Sl st to join rnd.
Rnd 2- 2 sc in each sc around. Rnd 3- 1 sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around.
Rnd 4- 2 sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around. Rnd 5- 1 sc in each of first 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around.
Rnd 6- 1 sc in each of first 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of last 4 sc.
Rnd 7- 1 sc in each of first 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around. Rnd 8- 1 sc in each sc around. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with in one of the two pieces.
Belly Patch- With Cerry Red and H hook, Ch 2. Rnd 1- Make 6 sc in second ch from hook. Sl st to join rnd. Rnd 2- 2 sc in each sc around. Rnd 3- 1 sc in each sc around. Rnd 4- 1 sc in each sc around. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with. Sew to center of front of Body. Fasten off.
Head- With Cherry Red and H hook, ch 2. Rnd 1- 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st to join rnd. (6 sc) Rnd 2- 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sc) Rnd 3- 1 sc in 1st sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around. (16 sc) Rnds 4 to 6- 1 sc in each sc around. (16 sc) Rnd 7- Insert cat toy ball into crocheted head. Make 1 sc in first sc, sc2tog over nest 2 sc, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, 1 sc in last sc. (13 sc) Rnd 8- 1 sc in each of first 2 sc, [sc2tog over next 2 sc] rep to end of round. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with.
Rnd 9- 1 sc in each sc around. (13 sc) Rnd 10- 1 sc in each of first 2 sc [sc2tog over next 2 sc] rep to end of row. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with.
Tail- With Ranch Red and H hook, ch 20. 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 3 sc in same ch, 4 sc in next ch and in each ch across. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with.
Pin Belly Patch to Front center of Body and sew using leftover tail. Fasten off. (Making a Belly Patch will give the rattle a little bit more of a roly-poly shape.) Thread blunt needle with tail leftover in one of Body pieces and sew both Front and Back of body together, leaving a good sized opening at the top to fill in.
Sew Tail to the very center of Back of Body. Fasten off. Set body aside for now.
Muzzle- With Ranch Red and H hook, ch 2. Rnd 1- 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st to join rnd. Ch 2, turn. Row 2- Work 4 hdc in same spot at ch 2, skip 1 sc, 1 sc in next sc. Sl st in next sc, ch 2, 4 hdc in same stitch, sl st in nest sc. Fasten off, leaving tail to sew with.
Pin to center of face and sew in place. Fasten off.
Eyes and Mouth- With Black and F hook, make Eyes as follows: Ch 2. Row 1- Make 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with. Pin right above muzzle, to the side, and sew in place. Fasten off. Mouth- Thread blunt needle with Black again, and inserting it through the open neck of the toy, embroider Mouth as seen in photos. Fasten off. To give more expression to Eyes, make a single dot on each one with Bright Yellow or White. Ears (Make 2)- With Cherry Red and H hook, ch 2. Rnd 1- Work 6 sc in second ch from hook, sl st to join rnd. Rnd 2- 2 sc in each sc around. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with.
Fasten off, leaving a tail to sew with. Sew two pieces each to each other, leaving bottom open. Sew each resulting ear to the side of the head where you left the opening, making sure you do it at the same level.
The reason I prefer to do it this way is because those ears are going to get grabbed and we don't want them to be flimsy.
Arms and Legs are in the form of "handles" for baby to grab.
Arms and Legs- Arms: Row 1- Join Ranch Red to bottom of front of body and with H hook, Ch 14 (I actually went through the two thicknesses in the already sewn body) skip 7 sc, sc in next sc. Ch 1, turn. Row 2- 1 sc in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. Row 3- 1sc in each sc across. Fasten off. Repeat on opposite side with other Arm.
Legs: Skip 1 sc below the end of "Arm" and join Cherry Red to next sc, and with H hook, ch 12. Row 1- Skip 3 more sc, 1 sc in next sc. Ch 1, turn. Row 2- 1 sc in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. Row 3- Rep row 2. Fasten off.
Repeat on opposite side for second Leg. Fasten off.

Insert second toy ball into body and stuff all around it. (You can substitute the second ball for a squaker, if you wish.) Thread blunt needle with Ranch Red and close top of Body. Fasten off and weave in tails. Sew head to top of Body using leftover tail. Fasten off. Weave in end.

You're done!

She's not hard to make at all. Hope you enjoy making her!

Mouth and Nose- With Black, embroider nose and bouth as seen in photos.
Stuff muzzle. Measure to center and pin in place. Sew in place using Shocking Pink.
Tip: Push fiberfill stuffing downwards and make a row of tiny, invisible stitches two rows below the eyes to keep the stuffing in place. Otherwise, the filling will go up and the muzzle will look like a beak.
Tail- (Note: Stuff lightly as you go.) With Claret, ch 2. Rnd 1- 6 sc in second ch from hook, sl st to join rnd (6 sc made). Rnd 2- 2 sc in each sc around, (12 sc made). Make 1 sc in each sc around. Rnds 51 to 52- 1 sc in each sc around. Fasten off Shocking Pink, leaving long piece of yarn to sew with.
Tip for sewing: Wedgewoods, as many variegated yarns is a slightly “thinner” worsted weight, and once the tial is stuffed, it will tend to “pull” at the crocheted fabric, bringing it down. To avoid this, make a “support disk” as follows: With Shocking Pink, ch 2. Rnd 1- Work 8 sc in second ch from hook, sl st to join rnd. Rnd 2- Make 2 sc in each sc around. Fasten off, leaving long strand to sew with. Insert support disk inside toy and sew all around the tail from the inside, and with invisible, tiny stitches, sew above and below the tail to reduce “pulling”. Fasten off.
Ears- Front of Ear: (Make 2)- With Shocking pink, ch 2. Rnd 1- Make 6 sc in second ch from hook, sl st to join rnd. Rnd 2- Work 2 sc in each sc around. Rnd 3- 1 sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around. Fasten off Shorking Pink. Rnd 4- Join Wedgewoods. Make 1 sc in each of first 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc around. Rnd 5- 1 sc in each sc around. Fasten off.
Back of Ear: (Make 2)- With Wedgewoods, rep first 5 rnds as for Front of Ear. Rnd 6- 1 sc in each of first 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around. Rnd 7 1 sc in each sc around. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with.
Sew ears together by palcing 1 front and 1 back together (wrong sides facing) and sewing all around, except the bottom. Insert opening at the bottom into upper side of toy as seen in photos, and sew in place. Fasten off.
Stuff legs and sew in place. Fasten off. Sew arms in place. Fasten off. Stuff body and sew top. Fasten off.
You’re done!

Now, working ont he inside of the toy, "trap" the stuffing into the pouch as you stitch and form the curve of the "cheek at the same time by working in the following manner: Insert the needle on the bottom edge of the pouch, taking a bit of the chrocheted fabric of the face also (the stitch right below the edge of the pouch you just stabbed with your needle), pull gently up. Stitch on the top edge of the pouch, taking a stitch right above it, pull gently down. Go all around the "cheek" pouch doing this, as you go, pull gently, making sure you do not deform the crocheted fabric, until you see a soft "cheek" bulge out and at the same time, inside, the stuffing will be caught and kept in place by a web of crisscrossing yarn as your stitches go all around the pouch. "The truth as it is in Jesus can be experienced, but never explained. Its height and breadth and depth pass out knowledge. We may task out imagination to the utmost, and then we shall see only dimply the outlines of a love that is unexplainable, that is as high as heaven, but that stooped to the earth to stamp the image og God on all mankind."
