Funmigurumi Mookie Tookies: Wellington the Cat

Best Blog Tips

Our cat, Lilly is a green-eyed, grey tabby which was rescued in the middle of a very hot summer, from a box in the street where she and her brothers had been abandoned. She was taken to the Pound and put up for adoption. When we got her, she was excruciatingly skinny and fearful. I had never seen a cat so gaunt in my life! Because she was the tiniest of all the bunch of cats in the cage she was in, the others did not let her eat much, so she survived on scraps. She was pitifully scraggy and meowed fearfully all the time. But we got her because of all the cats in those cages at the Pound, she was the only one who did not hiss with hostility at humans, and the only one who licked the hand that fed her. She is precious now. She grew, she filled up with love and care, and she now thinks that she can take on even rattle snakes! You see what love can do?

I think about children who are like Lilly. They might be afraid of the dark, they might be afraid of storms, they might be afraid of sleeping in a room alone, what might love and a huggable toy do for them?

My ideas are organic, their implementation follows inspiration and not a set form of rules. I don’t do Amigurumi in the classic sense of the word and terminology, I make creative, fun, colorful toys that seek to warm the heart and to be like a tickling feather to the funny bone. I make crocheted fun. That is why I call them Funmigurumi.
Wellington is a tabby mix little sweetie, he follows my idea of a little stray out of the Amigurumi Humane Society, brought to the Funmigurumi world to be loved and to love you right back. Hope you enjoy him!

Now, we will stop working in rounds, we will work in rows, to give our little guy his own characteristic personality. We will do a little math, but don’t be afraid, it’s quite easy!
We have now 64 stitches around, and we want to work in two sections of 16 stitches each in Front (to give him a bi-colored top), and we will do the same at Back.

16 x 4=64. So it has to be exactly 16 stitches. To make it easier, we will work in sections which we will later on, sew together.
