MyCowla Moolove Baby Rattle

Best Blog Tips

I wasn't planning to make cow rattles but I don't think the Moolove Family would be complete without at least one or two toys for the babies. Don't you think? I think the little ones should also be let in on the fun we've been having. So here is MyCowla. She's very easy and fast to make, and would be a great addition to any barnyard theme baby shower. If you make an afghan with barnyard animals or a mommy tote would farm animals, don't forget to include one of these!
Materials-
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Aran (scraps)
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Bright Yellow (scraps)
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Pale Yellow (scraps)
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Black (scraps)
Red Heart worsted weight yarn White (scraps)
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Petal Pink (scraps)
Pins
Measuring tape (if needed to center things)
1 Cat Ball (you find them in the Pet Aisle of your supermarket or WalMart, etc.)
1 piece of plastic canvas 6-1/2” W x 3-1/4” L (you will be rolling it to create a firm base for the rattle’s handle, you can cut a narrower piece if you want to, but the firmer the “stick” the better.)
Optional:
2 Jingle Bells (you will find them in crafts stores)
2 or 3 plastic beads
Another cat ball (you will be breaking the ball with a pair of pliers to get the bell to drop into the tube of the handle)

Thread a blunt needle and sew one Side # 1 piece to a Side #2 piece for Front and repeat for Back.

Note- You can sew MyCowla’s ears to match the Front sides of head or you can put the opposite color ear in place, it is up to your own taste.

Horns (Make 2)
MyCowla’s a very young cow, and she’s beginning to grow her hors, but they are barely coming out of her head.

Tail-
Measure 1 strand each of Aran, Pale Yellow and Bright Yellow 20” long, fold in half so that you will half
6 strands, divide into 3 groups of 2 strands and braid into a 3-strand braid. Make a knot at the end of your braid, leaving the rest unworked, when your braid is 3” long. Cut ends leaving like a small tassel. Thread blunt needle with one of the colors of yarn used and sew tail to center lower back of MyCowla’s body.

Handle-
Thread blunt needle with yarn. Fold the plastic canvas around bottle and sew it in place. Fasten off, Set aside for now, while we crochet a cover for it. (You can, just for added fun for the baby, add something that will rattle, such as a couple of jingle bells or another cat ball, before you cover the tube.) When you roll the tube, it ought to be 1” in circumference, but you can make it wider if you like.
Handle Cover-

Rnd 2- 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sc)

You’re done!
